The SHEAF Leadership Model

Five values made visible through daily behaviour.

SHEAF offers a memorable way to examine how we lead, communicate and treat people. Each principle is simple to understand and demanding enough to practise for a lifetime.

S

Sincerity

Sincerity builds trust through consistent action.

Sincerity is the alignment of words, motives and actions. It asks leaders to be honest without being harsh, consistent without pretending to be perfect, and willing to correct mistakes openly.

H

Helpfulness

Helpfulness builds trust through consistent action.

Helpfulness is useful support that strengthens another person rather than taking away responsibility. It includes sharing knowledge, removing unnecessary obstacles and recognising contribution when it happens.

E

Effectiveness

Effectiveness builds trust through consistent action.

Effectiveness turns good intentions into dependable results. It requires clarity, priorities, action, completion and review—without sacrificing people in the pursuit of performance.

A

Attentiveness

Attentiveness builds trust through consistent action.

Attentiveness means being present enough to hear words, notice context and understand what may not be said directly. People are more likely to trust leaders who make them feel seen and heard.

F

Friendliness

Friendliness builds trust through consistent action.

Friendliness brings warmth, dignity and respectful human connection into leadership. It does not avoid standards or difficult conversations; it changes the manner in which they are handled.

A useful test

“What do people consistently experience when they deal with me?”

The answer is often more revealing than the values we say we hold.
