On 20 July 2026, The SHEAF Leadership Model officially launches on Amazon in Kindle, paperback and hardcover formats.
This book introduces a practical leadership framework built around five simple but powerful principles: Sincerity, Helpfulness, Effectiveness, Attentiveness and Friendliness.
Together, these principles form the word SHEAF.
The model is designed to help managers, supervisors, business owners, educators, team leaders and everyday people strengthen the way they communicate, build trust and influence others.
Leadership is not only about holding a senior position. It is reflected in the way we treat people, respond to problems, keep our promises and support those who depend on us.
Why I wrote The SHEAF Leadership Model
I have spent more than 25 years working in management, sales, customer service, staff training, real estate and leadership.
I began my career at entry level and gradually worked my way into senior management. Along the way, I experienced different leadership styles and saw how they affected employees, customers and workplace relationships.
I learned that authority can create short-term compliance, but it does not always create commitment, trust or respect.
People may follow instructions because they have to. Genuine leadership encourages people to contribute because they feel respected, supported and valued.
The SHEAF principles helped reshape the way I approached leadership, communication and relationships. This book shares lessons drawn from real experiences, including mistakes, challenges, difficult decisions and moments of growth.
It was not written to present leadership as perfect or easy. It was written to make better leadership practical and achievable.
What does SHEAF mean?
Sincerity
Sincerity means being honest, genuine and consistent.
People are more likely to trust a leader whose words and actions match. A sincere leader does not pretend to have every answer. They communicate honestly, accept responsibility and treat people with integrity.
Helpfulness
Helpfulness means supporting people without taking away their responsibility.
Good leaders do not simply issue instructions. They remove unnecessary obstacles, offer guidance and help others develop the confidence to succeed.
Effectiveness
Effectiveness means turning intentions into meaningful action.
Leadership is not measured only by plans, meetings or promises. It is measured by what is completed, improved and achieved.
Effective leaders set clear priorities, follow through and help their teams focus on what matters most.
Attentiveness
Attentiveness means giving people and situations proper attention.
It involves listening carefully, noticing problems early and recognising when someone needs guidance, encouragement or support.
Many leadership problems grow because people feel ignored. Attentive leadership helps prevent that.
Friendliness
Friendliness means creating a respectful and approachable environment.
It does not mean avoiding difficult conversations or lowering standards. A friendly leader can still be firm, clear and accountable.
Friendliness simply ensures that leadership is carried out with dignity and respect.
A leadership framework for real life
The SHEAF Leadership Model is not intended only for executives or people working in large corporations.
It can be used by:
- first-time managers;
- experienced supervisors;
- team leaders;
- small-business owners;
- educators and trainers;
- customer-service professionals;
- community leaders;
- parents and mentors; and
- anyone who influences or supports other people.
The principles can be applied in workplaces, schools, businesses, families and communities.
You do not need a formal title to demonstrate leadership. Every conversation, decision and action can influence another person.
What readers will discover
The book explores how the five SHEAF principles can be applied to daily leadership situations.
Readers will learn how to:
- build trust through consistent behaviour;
- communicate with greater honesty and respect;
- support employees without micromanaging them;
- listen more carefully;
- improve accountability and follow-through;
- strengthen workplace relationships;
- handle leadership challenges more thoughtfully;
- recognise the effect their behaviour has on others; and
- turn positive values into visible action.
The book also includes practical reflection activities, leadership tools and a 30-Day SHEAF Challenge.
The challenge encourages readers to practise the principles instead of simply reading about them.
Leadership begins with character
Many people associate leadership with authority, control, job titles or organisational rank.
The SHEAF approach begins somewhere different: with character.
Skills are important. Planning is important. Results are important.
However, the way those results are achieved also matters.
A leader can reach a target while damaging trust. A manager can enforce compliance while weakening morale. A supervisor can complete a project while making employees feel ignored or undervalued.
SHEAF encourages leaders to pursue results while maintaining respect, honesty and humanity.
Small actions can create meaningful change
Improving leadership does not always require a complete organisational transformation.
It can begin with small changes:
- listening without interrupting;
- keeping a promise;
- acknowledging someone’s contribution;
- explaining a decision clearly;
- offering help when it is genuinely needed;
- completing an important task without delay;
- checking in with a struggling team member; or
- treating people respectfully during difficult conversations.
These actions may appear small, but repeated behaviour creates culture.
A sincere, helpful, effective, attentive and friendly leader can influence an entire team.
More than a leadership theory
The SHEAF Leadership Model was shaped by practical experience rather than theory alone.
It reflects lessons learned through years of working with employees, customers, managers, business owners, learners and people from many different backgrounds.
The model recognises that leaders make mistakes. It also recognises that leadership can improve when people are willing to reflect, listen and change.
SHEAF is not about becoming a perfect leader.
It is about becoming a more conscious, consistent and trustworthy one.

Practise it deliberately today.
Then repeat it tomorrow.
